"Shadows and Symbols" (S07E02, Stardate 52152.6) ties up a lot of ends nicely, bringing Ben back to the station after a pretty hefty trial. The inclusion of the Benny Russel vision was genius, and the Kira conflict was near perfect. All around fantastic way to start the final season.

I'm a Kai Winn apologist but not because I think she's a good person. She's a compelling tragic character

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the sun shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

had this idea recently for a game where you click on an orb with a pleasant man’s face and it tells you accurate prophecies about your life

no but fr the reading experience is so much better when you have no idea what he looks like, he goes from 'extremely average office worker that anyone could relate to' to 'oh he's a bit insane actually' to 'oh he's got some trauma' 'a lot of trauma' 'goddamn' 'he's still just some guy though' the part about him being unremarkable yet so loved is essential to the message that you can store so much goddamn love in one person simply because they exist. existing is enough. his thin hair strands, his pale cheeks, his starry eyes, none of it matters if not for the fact that they're his

BEEP BEEP BEEP
I threw a kindjal at my alarm clock.
“Paul! Get your prophetical ass downstairs!” my Reverend Mother yelled. I looked into the mirror to see my blue orbs staring at me. I put my natural dark curls into a messy bun. I threw on a stealthsuit and my favorite hoodie. I went downstairs to see my mother, surrounded by a group of fanatical followers with a bottle of water of life in her hands.
“Listen up! We needed to settle the spice melange crisis, so I sold you. Your new owners will arrive any minute”.
“You can’t do that! You are an awful mother!” She shrugged a took a swig of the water of life.
“That’s the Way, Paul, and I love being a fanatical ruler more than I love you. Actually, could’ve skipped whole being a concubine thing”
“That’s not the Way, it’s an anachronistic reference, you bitch!” I stormed out in the desert, but when I opened the door I saw one bald boy blocking the way. What was that thing called? His black orbs stared at me as he bared his black teeth.
“I think you are trying to say Golden Path” he said, grinning “But in this timeline it would also be anachronistic”
“As it is written!” Stilgar shreiked “He is being sold to One Direction!”

In this early draft [of "Tears of the Prophets"], Dukat has an Orb that he has stolen from Deep Space 9 and a chroniton generator (as opposed to the chroniton bomb mentioned on the beat board). After flying into the wormhole, he opens the Orb and confronts the Prophets. Then he activates the generator, which begins to kill the Prophets in much the same way as the Keiko/Pah-wraith intended in a previous episode, "The Assignment." In the meantime, Dax finds that Dukat has stolen the Orb and follows him into the wormhole, leading to a scene that [René] Echevarria recalls clearly. "Dax beams into Dukat's ship and sees the open Orb case,"' he recounts. "Then we return to Dukat's point of view, from within this disorienting Orb experience, in which he's being approached by the various Prophets in human form. The Sisko/Prophet approaches Dukat and says, 'What are you doing? You're killing us,' and Dax approaches to say something Prophet-like. Then she punches him and you realize that it's not a Prophet at all,'' he says, laughing at the thought of the unproduced scene. "It was a neat gag. She punches him and sets him down. So basically, Dax manages to stop Dukat from killing the Prophets completely, but she gets killed in the process. That was the first draft. The story changed a lot in the second."
from Star Trek: Action! by Terry J. Erdmann (1998)
